Titel: A multiscale approach to brain disorders
Host: Shervin Safavi (Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics)

Abstract:
Virtually all brain disorders involve alterations in neural excitability, brain connectivity, sleep, cognition, metabolism, and immune activity. Are these mechanisms and processes related to neuropsychiatric symptoms? Establishing a multiscale understanding of the causal relationships between the mechanisms underlying brain disorders and neuropsychiatric symptoms is particularly critical for mental health, where the lack of clear diagnostic criteria and precise treatment for highly heterogeneous conditions remains a grand challenge. In this presentation, using multiscale data-driven computational modeling, I explore the link between hyperexcitability, brain connectivity, sleep, and cognition, as well as implications for metabolism and immune activity. I then discuss the potential for testing this hypothesis and developing data-driven diagnoses and treatments.
